New things...

Here we are in Covid-19 Crisis isolation

in week 4, or is it week 5?

Some days when I wake up I am not sure of the day!

Fortunately the birds are singing and the sun is shining
Spring flowers are in bloom and life goes on...

perhaps in a different way
but nevertheless
we are able to stay snug in our home.

Things have changed...

Hearts in the window in support of our front line workers.

Each evening at 7pm we go out onto the front porch and bang pots and pans.
Our neighbours are participating with gusto.

It gives me goose bumps listening to everyone who joins in to make this racket!
We are a solid community united in spirit.

The daffodils are putting on a magnificent display.

King Alfred Daffodils are sold by the box early in the Fall.
We grabbed a box of 100 and my husband planted them out front in The Humble Bungalow Garden.
The deer do not eat them so we can enjoy their bright sunny blooms.

We listen to the reports from our BC CDC Health Authority
Dr. Bonnie Henry shares the latest numbers of cases here in BC.

She tells us which community has new cases
how many people are in hospital
those who are in intensive care
those who have recovered
most people who have the virus
are at home in quarantine.

Bonnie is the voice of reason and is very calm.
We look to her for leadership at this time.

She reminds us that we need to stay home to stay safe and to stop the spread of the virus.
She encourages us to be social but do so virtually.

Dr, Henry has become a hero and I hope that when this is over the province honours her in some significant way.

Snowflake Snowdrops are quite tall...
we purchased 5 pots of bulbs from a farm stand a few years ago and I have my fingers crossed that they will multiply.

I love the wee chartreuse dots on the frilly petals.

I absolutely LOVED this book!
I read it in two days.

How are you managing during your time at home?
Have you been cooking and baking or getting creative?

January...starting slowly

Easing into the New Year...
mulling over some goals and ideas
making a few intentions
not necessarily resolutions
confirming if they are reasonable, attainable and worth considering.

Have you made any resolutions for twenty twenty?

The view on my walk earlier this week on a beautiful sunny day.

December Hollyhocks in bloom on a street near the Humble Bungalow.

The eagle has landed!
There are frequently two bald eagles perched up in the tree...

On
New Years Day
a few people walking past the tree
stopped to look up and admire this majestic bird.

Speaking of looking up...

A Single Star
made out of tin
hangs above the sink in The Humble Bungalow.

Different from the
Stars
that sparkle and twinkle up above
in the night sky.

Do you remember this poem about Stars from your childhood?

The rains have started and they'll be with us for awhile.

Cenotaph near Cattle Point in the Uplands area of Victoria.
Glimpsed as we walked by on our morning walk.

I don't know any food more comforting
except a bowl of soup on a cold rainy day.

 Homemade Tomato Soup

I roasted several pounds of fresh tomatoes
diced onions
5 cloves of minced garlic
in a shallow pan with some olive oil
400 degree oven for 45 minutes

I popped them all in a pot
added a tetra pack of veggie stock
put it on to simmer.

Then I used the immersion blender to blend it all.
Salt and Pepper to taste.

Currently reading The Rocks by Peter Nichols.

Going to pop the kettle on soon and brew a pot of tasty Murchies Chestnut Tea.
Will light the candle and read for a bit.

How is your New Year looking so far?
What are you reading?

The view from here...

The view from here..

The Humble Bungalow Garden
Hydrangeas in front of the freshly painted exterior of our heritage home.

Since taking this picture Mr. HB has hung up our heritage plaque,
house numbers, mailbox and the porch furniture is back in place.

The view from here...
the back deck door and steps.

Our first sweet pea bouquet cut from the garden.

I love sweet peas...
their form, colours and scent are all exquisite.

I wonder if anyone makes a sweet pea perfume?

The view from here...
walking snippets

Hollyhock up close and personal
growing on a street just off Dallas Road.

The water was calm,
not a breath of wind
the clouds hung like a puffy white curtain overhead.

Two handsome bucks were leisurely munching on the seaward side of Ross Bay Cemetery oblivious to the passing cars...

I stopped and watched them from just across the street.
They were more interested in lunch than taking any notice of me!

More signage along my regular walking route...

The view from here...

We enjoyed dinner out last evening with our friends at the Flying Otter on the Inner Harbour in Victoria.
This is where the local seaplanes take off...
There are the traditional Victoria hanging baskets on the dock.

On Fridays The Flying Otter offer a 2 for one appetizer special
which I plan to order next time I go...
my BFF had the Tuna Tataki and the crab cakes and they looked amazing!

The view from here...

I started reading a new book by author Elin Hilderbrand.
Her writing style is very engaging and I have a feeling that I am going to want to read her other novels after I finish this one...
they are all set in or near Nantucket.

Our darling daughter and her fiancee are set to elope this weekend and I am feeling very emotional as my " first born ~ baby girl" is getting married.

She and her fiancee will be taking a ferry to a beautiful Gulf Island
where they have an intimate ceremony arranged to take place in a natural setting.

~ Wedding flowers need to be assembled ~

after I pick them from the garden...
I hope my tears do not fog up my glasses too much.

I feel Happiness and Joy for them both...
I am certain that it is
the heart tugging mother's love
that is responsible for my mood.

I will show the bouquet and boutonniere on my next blog post.
